The bodies of three men, all of them with signs of torture, were hung in public view in the early hours of Tuesday in Cuernavaca, the latest atrocities in Mexico's drug war.
The so-called “city of eternal spring,” some 90 kilometers south of Mexico City, is the object of heavy fighting between drug gangs keen to control the distribution and sale of narcotics in central Mexico, reports Deutsche Presse-Agentur. Federal forces killed drug lord Arturo Beltrán Leyva there last year. Two of the bodies were hung from an overhead road crossing opposite one of the city's main shopping centers, while the other was hung from a bridge over the Mexico-Acapulco highway. Police said messages had been found by the bodies, although their content was not made public. Since Beltrán Leyva was killed in December, his brothers have been fighting for control of the area with another drug boss, Édgar Valdez Villarreal, as known as “La Barbie.” The struggle has left more than 120 people dead.
